These are the baby days
The just keep your foot in the door of your career days
The work just enough to pay for childcare so you can keep making art days
The bare minimum so you can hang with your baby days
The growing list of ideas but not enough energy to follow through days
The leaving notes for your future self days
The daycare sickness that erupts your creative plans days
The working in 15-minute chunk days
The so much new love in your heart you don’t know what to do with it all days
The laser focus of what’s important days
But the trying to figure out what to focus on first days

This was inspired by a conversation I had last week with friend and colleague
about navigating self-employment in the baby years. You can’t have it all, but how can you stay in the loop and feel inspired, helpful, creative, and supported professionally when sometimes you just don’t have childcare for a few weeks in a row?

I always love received your illustrated musings. You are so present in your self, motherhood, and as an artist.
I was a single mom to both my kids and a self-employed artist/illustrator for 33 years to support us all. The days of their youth seem like an eternity while living through it, but are a flash when looking back on it - I'm sure I'm not the first to mention this.
Keep doing what you're doing being present - as you are.
