I pulled out all the ingredients to make chocolate chip cookies and then I remembered my oven is broken.
It is (was) one of those “smart” ovens that connect to wifi and can bake with an app, but I never installed the app because I have boundaries and the oven’s digital screen died which leaves no way to start the oven. All this could have been avoided if the people who lived here previously would have picked a regular oven but here we are.
I decide to forge ahead and have a cookie bake off with all my other available cooking gadgets: the air fryer, toaster oven, and a skillet on the stove.
The Results
The air fryer took about 6 minutes and tasted the best which is no surprise because it’s the best kitchen gadget ever invented. I only had enough room to bake 6 cookies at a time, and placed the dough on parchment paper.
The toaster oven took 30 minutes and the cookies came out hard even though they looked like they weren’t cooking at all. Also placed the dough on parchment paper.
I burned the skillet cookie because I turned the heat up too high due to impatience because the other cookies were done and I wanted to eat all of them together. It tasted like a cookie pancake which is fun.
I shared the recipe below just in case your oven works and you have a taste for cookies.
Almond Flour Chocolate Chip Cookies
(Pulled directly from the back of the Whole Foods almond flour bag. Makes 24 cookies.)
Ingredients
3 cups almond flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup coconut oil
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
Heat oven to 350°. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
Mix the almond flour, salt, and baking soda in a medium bowl.
In a separate large mixing bowl, beat the butter, coconut oil, and sugar with an electric mixer at medium speed for about 1 minute, until light and fluffy. (I just used a fork for all the mixing.)
Mix the eggs and vanilla into the wet mixture until combined on low speed.
Slowly add the dry mixture into the wet mixture, and mix until dough forms.
Fold in the chocolate chips with a wooden spoon.
Roll dough into uniform balls by the tablespoon to form about 24 balls and place 2 inches apart on baking sheets. Flatten center slightly with palm of hands.
Bake each sheet for 13-15 minutes or until edges are lightly golden brown.
Burn your mouth because you don’t let the cookies cool before eating them 🍪.
Okay, I did NOT know ovens came with wifi? I clearly live under a rock. Why does an oven need an app?! Why can't it just be an oven that ovens when it needs to oven?! I don't understand.
"The air fryer took about 6 minutes and tasted the best which is no surprise because it’s the best kitchen gadget ever invented."
Dammit. Do I need to get an air fryer?? I've debated. Or a pressure cooker?! Serious question if you have thoughts.
Also 6 cookies at one time?! That's not enough, Shannon!!
"It tasted like a cookie pancake which is fun." lol
I've actually never baked cookies from scratch before, can you believe that?
Maybe I'll bake these. I've been meaning to finally become a baker for a while now.
'Tis the season?
