Yo I really like how you’re using shapes here to show that contrast in your approach—with the cubes/boxes feeling more rigid, stable, and generally “packaged” and the circles feeling so much more open, loose, and fun.
When I look at the images of those circles falling, I see it not just as “all these things are here, falling, and I’ll catch whatever lands”, but more like, “I had these in my hands and I made an intentional choice to toss them up in the air and let them fall.”
Good luck with your possible-future-budding martial arts career!
It’s because your illustrations/storytelling are always so good! Your newsletter is easily one of my favorites, not just out of the comic/illustrations kind, but newsletters in general. You excel at zooming in on small moments and recognizing the big in them (this is one of my favorite things).
At some point, I want to buckle down and focus on storytelling with illustrations and do an experiment with maybe like a daily/month-long thing, either in a separate section of my Substack, or another one entirely.
luv that you’re giving yourself permission to just be open…can’t wait to hear how things fill in.
😊

I've been sitting with your comment for a few days because it's (they always are!) consistently thoughtful and reflective. Thank you, thank you 🙏

"Zooming in on small moments and recognizing the big in them" Can I use this as the newsletter description? lol
Dooo it!!! I think it would be an excellent new component block in your newsletter.
Haha yes! If it feels right to you!
At some point! Soon. Maybe. Idk we'll see 👀
Maybe post-WOP. Maybe in secret. You've set the bar high.
